Parcel tax initiative underway for local schools

Parcel taxes have historically been a tough sell in the town of Windsor under the rules set by Prop. 13, but a proposition expected on the November ballot might help local education leaders avoid the difficulties faced in the past decade by the fire department if the need ever arises.

The Local Control of Local Classrooms Funding Act would amend the California Constitution to allow parcel taxes to pass with only 55 percent of the vote instead of the 66.6 percent currently needed under Prop. 13. This change will only impact parcel tax elections for K-12 school districts and community colleges.
